Poultry Consumption and Human Cardiometabolic Health-Related Outcomes: A Narrative Review

Poultry meats, in particular chicken, have high rates of consumption globally. is the most consumed type meat United States (US), with chicken being common poultry consumed. The amounts and total US more than tripled over last six decades. This narrative review describes nutritional profiles commonly chicken/poultry products, trends, dietary recommendations US. Overviews scientific literature pertaining to associations between, effects consuming on, body weight composition, cardiovascular disease (CVD), II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are provided. Limited evidence from randomized controlled trials indicates lean unprocessed as a primary protein source has either beneficial or neutral on composition risk factors for CVD T2DM. Apparently, zero feeding specifically assessed processed these health outcomes. Evidence observational studies less consistent, likely due confounding such lack description distinctions among types consumed, cooking preservation methods. New experimental research impacts chicken/poultry, especially versions, cardiometabolic sorely needed.
